The United States today launched strikes on Latin American nation Venezuela.

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social has said, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.”

The U.S. had been accusing Maduro of leading an international drug trafficking organisation. While Maduro had been denying the charges, he also had been in recent days offering the U.S. to hold dialogue with him.

Photographs of heavy bombing in different places in Caracas could be seen in Venezuela.

According to reports, there has been a huge military build-up in the Americas, something that could be observed for the first time since the days of the Cold War.

For long, the United States forces had been carrying out airstrikes on Venezuelan boats that allegedly carried drugs on-board. The strikes so far have killed well-over 110 people.

Reactions from Europe

Germany has said it is watching the situation, albeit with concern. It is in touch with its embassy in Caracas.

Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has said that Italy’s diplomatic representation in Caracas is monitoring the developments.
