U.S. President Donald Trump has applauded the role of the NATO troops in its Afghanistan exercise after his earlier statement drew widespread ire in Britain and other European nations.
Trump said in his social media platform, Truth Social, “The GREAT and very BRAVE soldiers of the United Kingdom will always be with the United States of America! In Afghanistan, 457 died, many were badly injured, and they were among the greatest of all warriors. It's a bond too strong to ever be broken".
Trump in an earlier statement had said that the United States had never needed the transatlantic alliance and that the allies stayed “a little off the front lines”. Trump’s statement had drawn criticism from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Britain’s prince Harry.
