Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro is slated to appear in the U.S. court in New York City after he had been captured by the U.S. military two days back.
He has been accused of various offences. The court appearance, however, will confirm the charges Maduro has been labelled upon, which are, narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy and weapons offenses.
Meanwhile, the acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodríguez, who had on January 4 created a commission to seek release of the ousted President, has softened her posture after U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning that she may have to pay a “bigger price than Maduro” if she did not cooperate with the United States. The acting President a day after softened her stand calling for cooperation with the United States.
‘We invite the U.S. government to work together on an agenda of cooperation oriented towards shared development within the framework of international law to strengthen lasting community coexistence,’ Rodriguez said as reported by the international media. ‘President Donald Trump, our peoples and our region deserve peace and dialogue, not war.’
The U.S., according to reports, is working to establish a pliant interim government in Venezuela.
The action of the United States has divided the world into two clear camps. While some countries are supporting the U.S. action, countries like Russia, China, North Korea have criticized it, terming the action as the violation of international laws.
The United Nations, meanwhile, was slated to debate on the legality of U.S. action against Maduro on Monday.
