The Middle-East conflict stands at a crucial crossroad with U.S. President Donald Trump issuing a warning to Iran saying that ‘a civilization will die’ if Iran did not do a deal, and a defiant Iran standing its ground.

The deadline Trump gave is 8 p.m. time in Washington, which is 3.30 a.m. in Tehran, to end the deadlock to the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump has threatened to strike power plants and bridges in Iran.

While media reports suggested that Iran has defied the fresh threat of Trump, news agency Reuters reported that the U.S.-Israel military hit targets in Kharg Island, railways and bridges throughout the day on Tuesday. Iran has said it would retaliate against U.S. allies in the Gulf, and render the cities uninhabitable. It has also refused to re-open the Strait of Hormuz.

According to reports, parts of west Tehran has been rendered powerless by hits on transmission lines and a substation. Reports also said that a synagogue in Tehran has been destroyed by, which Iran attributed to a strike by Israel.

Meanwhile, mediation for peace by Pakistan is on, though no breakthrough has been reported so far. Messages were being exchanged between Iran and the U.S. through Pakistan, which has offered to mediate peace.

On the other hand, in the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday, a resolution was brought to protect commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which was vetoed by China and Russia, according to reports by media organisations.

The veto by the two permanent members of the U.N. Security Council showed that Russia and China are strongly supporting Iran’s position in its response to the attacks by the U.S. and Israel.

According to experts, the peace talk is making little progress due to reasons like continued threats of U.S. President Trump, and attacks and counter-attacks on military and civilian facilities.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance during a visit to Hungary said that the U.S. has largely accomplished its military objectives in Iran. Media reports also said that the U.S. Vice President hoped that Iran will respond to the U.S. deadline.

Iran on the other hand, showed no let down in its position despite Trump’s threat and numerous strikes by the U.S.-Israel military on its civilian facilities including bridges.

Iran Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei posted on X, saying, “The power of a ‘CIVILIZED’ nation’s culture, logic, and faith in its righteous cause will undoubtedly prevail over the logic of brute force”, adding that “A nation that has every faith in the righteousness of its path shall harness all its capacities and capabilities to safeguard its rights and legitimate interests”.

Meanwhile, the Middle-East countries have maintained that “there would be no winner if the war continued”.
