A youth from Utta Pradesh province of India did an unheard-of gambit to realise his dream—to become a doctor. He cut off his leg.
The youth, 24-year-old in age (name withheld), reportedly did so to avail a disability certificate, called as Divyang certificate, which provided benefit in securing a seat under reserved category of candidates.
Admission to government medical colleges in India are done according to categories of candidates and the examination to select eligible candidates is conducted through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Having failed twice at the entrance test, the said candidate wanted to get a seat with the help of a disability certificate under reservation facility. Unfortunately, the police came to know of his self-disability act, and is now pondering to file a case instead.
Evidences gathered during police investigation suggested that the young man disabled himself using a machine at an under-construction house.
