German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has maintained that he doesn’t want split in NATO alliance over U.S.-Iran war
Body: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has maintained that he doesn’t want split in NATO alliance over U.S.-Iran war, speaking on the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to withdraw from the alliance.
Merz, as quoted by media reports at an interaction, said that Germany has been in conversation with Iran to end the war as the war has created massive energy crisis in Germany as well apart from leaving thousands dead in the Middle-East.
European allies of the NATO had maintained Iran war as “not our war” despite Trump asking them to join in. Though initially, NATO allies condemned Iran, in later days they stayed away. When Trump asked them to send navy to re-open the Strait of Hormuz after Iran closed it, they declined, further infuriating Trump.
NATO’s European allies are worried of Russian, which is in a war with Ukraine that continues even after its fourth year.
