U.S. President Donald Trump’s stand on the NATO allies in Afghanistan is attracting criticisms from NATO allies.

While British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has termed the statement as ‘insulting and frankly appalling’, Britain’s Prince Harry has said that the ‘sacrifices’ of the NATO forces in Afghanistan ‘deserve to be spoken about truthfully and with respect’.

Media reports noted the U.S. President Trump as saying in a statement about NATO allies that the United States had never needed the transatlantic alliance and that the allies stayed “a little off the front lines”.

The U.S. and the NATO allies had an armed conflict against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan between 2001 till 2021. While the U.S. itself had lost many of its military personnel, Britain alone, according to British Prime Minister Starmer had lost 457 service personnel.

Prince Harry himself is supposed have served there.
