Violence has erupted in Bangladesh ahead of general election in February next year, throwing the Asian country into turmoil again.

Hundreds of thousand people have taken the streets in violence, this time targeting the press, torching printing press and offices of two leading newspapers of the country.

The death of youth leader, Sharif Osman Hadi, who died on Thursday in a hospital in Singapore after being shot by assailants in Dhaka a few days back sparked violence.

While Hadi was said to have been a vocal critic of India, the newspapers have been blamed as pro-India in their reporting by the protestors. The victim newspapers, however, maintain that they have no partiality and that they are neutral in their editorials.

Many journalists, according to reports, remained trapped in the buildings that were set on fire on Thursday by the protestors.

After the violent protest last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to flee her country to save her life, later seeking shelter in India. Bangladesh has been demanding India to deport her to her country, which has not been responded to by India.

According to reports of the media, more than thousand journalists in Bangladesh have faced persecutions of different types in their own country after the violence of last year and India giving shelter to Sheikh Hasina.
