Pakistan has proposed a plan to the United States and Iran to end the Middle-East conflict, and both the sides are said pondering over it, news agency Reuters reported on Monday.

The peace plan, according to the proposal, is two-staged and includes immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for international trade shipping.

Iran Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, has been reported as to have acknowledged the diplomatic efforts by Pakistan while the United States is yet to respond to the peace plan of Pakistan, reports suggest.

On the backdrop of Pakistan’s peace plan proposal, U.S. President Donald Trump issued yet another warning to Iran, asking it to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face ‘hell’. “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. Open the F*** Strait, you crazy b****, or you’ll be living in Hell”, Trump said on a social media post.

Iran, on the other hand, made it clear that the status of Strait of Hormuz has changed, and that talks on peace was not possible under such threat atmosphere.

“The era of foreign hegemony over this critical waterway is definitely over,” media organisations reported referring to Iran Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) Navy statement. “The Strait of Hormuz will never return to its previous status, especially for the U.S. and the Zionist regime”.

The IRGC statement followed Trump’s expletive-loaded warning to Iran.

Reports suggest that the U.S., Iran and the regional mediators are discussing a potential 45-day ceasefire as part of the two-phased peace plan. Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran is said to be the first point of the peace plan. Iran’s commitment to forgo pursuing nuclear weapon programme is said to be the final point in the peace plan.

How seriously the Peace plan is being taken?

Iran maintains that the status of Strait of Hormuz has changed!

And that peace talk does not take place amidst threats and hard deadlines.

The United States on the other hand is yet to respond officially to Islamabad’s peace plan. Israel too has to be brought to the loop.

Earlier last month, the United States had proposed a 15-point peace plan. However, Iran considered it ‘illogical’.

Reports suggest that Iran has prepared a peace plan which it wants to announce at an appropriate time.

Strait of Hormuz is the bone of contention

Before the United States-Israel attacked Iran and killed its top leadership, the Strait of Hormuz was open for free international business navigation. Not now. Iran controls it now as a matter of existential strategy.

Going by the stance of Iran, the status of the Strait of Hormuz is feared to have changed completely. Iran has maintained that the strait is open for friends, but closed for enemies.

A few days back, a coalition had been formed under the leadership of the UK to engage Iran and find a way out to the problem of the Strait of Hormuz. This happened after U.S. President Donald Trump’s primetime speech a few days back in which he asked the affected nations to get the Strait of Hormuz opened.

Thus, while the UK-led coalition is at its task, Islamabad peace plan too stressed opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump’s renewed threat too is based on the strait.
